Teresa Rose - Principal

Kernersville Elementary School

"At KES we count ourselves especially blessed due to the tradition of community support that continues to help our school function as an exceptional learning place. The Kiwanis Club has been a supporter of our little wildcats for many years. They have adapted their support to keep up with the ever-changing needs we face at Kernersville Elementary. Several years ago, they got behind our initiative to focus on students' growth with the BUG reward. This recognizes students for bringing up grades and encourages our children to always try to improve. Most recently The Kiwanis gifted our school with a hand-crafted Book Vending Machine where every student that has perfect attendance each quarter receives a new book. This gift that joins our HERO award (Here Everyday Ready & Ontime) has contributed to a decrease in students with chronic attendance concerns at KES. The Book Vending Machine is also visited by students that receive the honor of Caped Crusader for being an outstanding student and good citizen at school. We also have our shooting star readers visit the Book Vending Machine when they reach the school goal for reading a pre-determined number of books and completing book reviews at home. All of these initiatives are helping students to be successful and assisting KES in reaching critical school goals including good attendance, good behavior and getting students to read at home. The Kernersville Kiwanis is a prime example of a community organization that is focused on making a positive impact on the future of their community by doing their part in ensuring that their children are prepared to be successful contributors and good citizens."
